Film Synopsis:

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn't always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn't stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

My Take:

Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike's plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, "Sulley" (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair's out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University's elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

If I was truly pinned down and under the white light I would probably say that Monster’s Inc. is my favorite Disney/Pixar film behind Toy Story. When Monster’s University was announced and the teaser trailers began to surface I wasn’t overly enthusiastic about the premise which revolved around a prequel about Mike and Sully meeting in college. As it turned out Monster’s University which is the 14th installment in the Disney/Pixar canon, is charming and entertainingly explores themes of self-discovery and the revelations that come with growing up. Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi and John Ratzenberger reprise their roles (Bonnie Hunt returns but with a new character) and a plethora of new characters are voiced by the likes of Helen Mirren, Alfred Molina, Sean Hayes, Nathan Fillion, Charlie Day, SNL’s Bobby Moynihan, and Aubrey Plaza.
