Monsters Inc. Boo Costume for Toddler
If you’re ever in need of a cute costume for a child, you can’t go wrong with Boo from Monsters Inc. The little girl who finds herself in Monstropolis and befriends Sulley and Mike Wazowski is the very definition of precious. Coolest Homemade Costumes user Stephanie realized a Boo costume would be perfect for her 18 month old daughter because she loved putting her in pigtails and noticed a little bit of a resemblance. She decided to make the costume from a shiny purple fabric, white fabric, batting, felt, velcro, a mop, styrofoam balls, and a few other materials.
The costume is sort of like a pouch, so she didn’t have to draft a complicated pattern. She just wrapped the fabric around her daughter to get the right size:
I then cut the purple fabric, batting, and flannel lining all the same size, and sewed them all together. After I had all the sides sewed together, I then sewed two lines through the middle of the body to create the different sections. Then I sewed the bottom & top of the costume. I then wrapped what I had so far around my daughter and figured out where the arm holes needed to be, and cut them out, and sewed in the white fabric for the sleeves. Next I sewed what would be the back of the costume 3/4 of the way up. Then I sewed in my velcro the other 1/4 of the way. I put a clasp at the very top of the velcro. After trying the body on my daughter, i realized it needed straps on the inside to help hold the costume up, which worked perfectly, I used the white dot fabric for the straps.
