It was, he said, the first time in nearly 90 years that such a lengthy lag in sightings had occurred.
Mr Campbell, a chartered accountant, has been logging Nessie sightings for 17 years after seeing something in the loch himself.
“The number of sightings has been reducing since the turn of the century but this is the first time in almost 90 years that Nessie wasn’t seen at all.”

It’s not the first time since Nessie has been a no show; in fact, there are no reports of the beast until less than a century ago.
Nessie — often thought to be a solitary, female creature — first achieved notoriety in 1933 after a story was published in a local newspaper describing a splashing in the water that appeared to be caused “by two ducks fighting.”
A famous photograph showing a long dinosaur-like neck set the Nessie myth rolling, but was later revealed to be a hoax.

Nessie might just be having a wee rest and getting away from it all for a while.
Mr Campbell said: “I’m convinced that Nessie has just taken some time out and will be back with a vengeance this year.”
